Purple Poppy Mallow (Callirhoe involucrata)
Purple Poppy Mallow, native south and west of our area, is a low-growing plant with a great magenta flower. It attracts bees and might be the host for the Checkered Skipper, though I was not able to find much information on its floral/faunal interactions (illinoiswildflower.info). Either way, it adds a great pop of color and kind of rambles between other plants without being a ground cover. It does have a decent taproot and, thus, would not like to be moved.
